Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026, starting at 7:39 PM
On August 12, 2026, Ibiza will experience a total solar eclipse. This spectacular natural event begins at 7:39 PM, reaching totality at 8:33 PM. For approximately one minute, the Sun will be completely obscured by the Moon. After that, the Moon will gradually move away again until the Sun—still partially covered—sets at 8:53 PM.
By then, the Sun will already be low in the northwestern sky, so an unobstructed view in that direction is essential. A location overlooking the sea is ideal. The coastline between Cala d'Hort and Cala Comte (Cala Conta), for example, offers excellent viewing conditions.
Many other locations across the island will also provide excellent views, provided there are no trees, buildings, or hills blocking the horizon. At the time of totality, the Sun will be only about 3° above the horizon. At such a low angle, every feet of an obstacle's height casts a shadow of roughly 20 feet. In other words, a building 30 feet tall can block the view from as far as 600 feet away.
Most importantly, as with every solar eclipse: Never look directly at the Sun without proper eye protection. Always use certified solar viewing glasses or other appropriate eclipse safety equipment.
